MAKING SPACE - IPP WORKSHOP
The IPP will be hosting a workshop titled ‘making space’ over the next few weeks starting this Saturday 31 March at 10:30 am sharp. Following the intro, the programme will run every Friday and Saturday until 21 April.
‘Making space’ is about using the physical or virtual space of a publication as a space for critical thought, experimentation and play. The aim of the workshop is to introduce a small group of students to independent publishing as an artistic or creative strategy. The workshop will facilitate each student’s creation of a personal or collaborative space through the development of a publishable form or structure. Focused loosely on small-scale print and online publishing, students will interact with a range of different strategies employed by different practitioners – from self-broadcasting to real-time archiving to book binding and layout.
The workshop will be supported by guest participants CUSS (Zamani Xolo, Ravi Govender, Nikki Comninos & Jamal Nxedlana), Rangoato Hlasane, Sebastian Borckenhagen, Josh and Jared Ginsburg and Mark Kannemeyer.
WORKSHOP SCHEDULE:
Details about this and other guest participant sessions will be given during the intro on Saturday 31 March & posted here on the blog. Please let us know if you're coming as space is limited.

A quick provisional rundown of events planned for the upcoming week.
On Tuesday 27 September at 14:00 Clive Kellner will be in conversation with the IPP on the history of the Camouflage gallery (1991-2001) and his experience of independence and agency within the landscape of contemporary art in South Africa.

Another two informal conversations will be hosted on Friday 30th, the first at 11:00 with Kathryn Smith, artist and founder of serialworks, on independent strategies and making the conditions to make in, and the second at 14:30 with Andy Mason, comic artist and educator, on various topics that emerge around his extensive collection of South African comics.
