Using a back-room as a small research office, the project is sharing space and attention with an archival experiment to be conducted by Research Art (Francis Burger and Josh Ginsburg) in conversation with the Artist Proof Studio retrospective at the Johannesburg Art Gallery.
The Parking Gallery is a malleable artist-run project initiated to create an alternative platform for contemporary art in South Africa. The first incarnation of the gallery was founded in 2006 by Simon Gush as a temporary and informal exhibition space. Currently hosted by VANSA Gauteng, the Parking Gallery exists as a common space for discussions, debates and showcasing topical work, facilitated by Gush and Ruth Sacks. The platform is structured around a weekly event held every Wednesday evening. Each week will host a presentation by art world practitioners involved in relevant projects and research, as well as professionals from various different fields outside of the art world.
